Why considering a stay abroad?

There are many reasons why studying or working abroad for one or two semesters is beneficial for students. You might gain different perspectives and insights on your study subjects, broaden your academic and cultural horizons in general, gain work experience, perfect your language skills, live outside the family home for the first time, or increase your national and international job prospects after your graduation.

Additionally, while spending time in English-speaking countries is recommended for everyone who studies English, for Lehrdiplom candidates it is mandatory.

You can find some general information on studying abroad in the slides from this year's Study Abroad Information Meeting:

If you are interested in hearing what past exchange students have to say about their decisions to go abroad and how they experienced the entire process, please have a look at the video from the Global Student Experience office.

Stay Abroad Possibilities for Students of English

Students of English who want to spend one or two semesters abroad can either take the opportunity to study abroad at one of our exchange partner universities or they can apply for language and teaching assistanships via Movetia or Amity. For shorter stays abroad, summer and winter schools provide students with the chance to visit another university for two to four weeks. Furthermore, students who have spent more than four weeks abroad without earning any ECTS are eligible to book one of the English Department's stay abroad modules to earn an extra 3 ECTS.

Please read the information on each of these possibilities and additional options in the respective subsection.
