Preliminary Remarks
The following sample timetables suggest some of the ways in which one can study the recommended "Literature and Linguistics" track of the Master Minor in English Literature and/or Linguistics (30 ECTS).
There are three examples:
- one example for students who study full-time and who intend to complete their studies in four semesters;
- two examples for part-time students with a two-thirds workload (i.e. 66.7%).
Note: None of these sample timetables are binding; they are intended as examples or 'templates.'
Full-Time Students: One Example
Important: It is not mandatory to complete one's studies in four semesters. (Students with additional requirements ("Auflagen") will almost certainly need five or more semesters to complete their studies.)
Sample Timetable for Full-Time Students
- Students can start their studies either in the fall or in the spring semester.
- In the case of two-semester modules, the total number of ECTS points is 'spread out' over two semesters.
- In principle, it is possible to go abroad at any point. However, the final semester is not ideal for a stay abroad. Please consult the Stay Abroad section for more information.

Part-Time Students: Two Examples
Important: While there is no minimum number of credits required per semester, a workload of 60% or more is recommended. (The two examples below are for a two-thirds workload.)
Sample Timetable for Part-Time Students: 66.7% (Example 1)
- Students can start their studies either in the fall or in the spring semester.
- In the case of two-semester modules, the total number of ECTS points is 'spread out' over two semesters.
- A full-time workload is 30 ECTS per semester (Major and Minor combined). However, students are free to reduce the workload per semester, thus allowing for part-time study (i.e. there is no minimum number of credits required per semester).
- The total number of credits for a 66.7% workload is c. 20 ECTS per semester (Major and Minor combined).
- As the overall requirements for the Master degree stay the same (120 ECTS), taking fewer credits per semester means that one will need more time to complete one's studies.
- Depending on the requirements of your Major, the template below will have to be adjusted.
- In principle, it is possible to go abroad at any point. However, the first and the final semesters are not ideal for a stay abroad. Please consult the Stay Abroad section for more details.
