The Fachverein Anglistik, FAVA, is incredibly excited to announce their second annual FAVA Guest Lecture/Talk! They have, with a lot of very kind help from the ES Alumni Student Fund, organised for Yara Rodrigues Fowler to come to the University of Zurich.
Yara Rodrigues Fowler is a Brazilian-British author and political activist who grew up in South London. She has published two novels, Stubborn Archivist in 2019 (longlisted for the Desmond Elliott Prize and the Dylan Thomas Prize) and there are more things in 2022 (shortlisted for the Orwell Prize for Political Fiction and the Goldsmiths Prize). Both of her novels make use of quite an experimental and unique form, brilliantly taking advantage of the physical pages they are printed on. Her work tackles themes of queerness, politics, and her Brazilian heritage, frequently weaving in fragments of Portuguese and references to Brazilian culture throughout. She is also a political organizer for Fossil Free Books.
On Thursday, April 10th, at 18:30, in KOL-E-18, the FAVA will be conducting a discussion with her about both her literary work and her political activism, which will be followed by an apéro kindly funded by the English Department. The event is open to the public, and everyone is welcome!
