Welcome to the UZH English Department!

Starting one's studies can be overwhelming. This section of the English Department website is intended to make things a little easier for beginners.

First Steps: Planning Your Schedule

At university, you will not receive a finished timetable. Instead, you will have to create your own timetable, based on the requirements of your Major and Minor, and depending on other things as well (e.g. on whether or not you study full-time).

You can find more information on selecting your first-year modules in English Literature and Linguistics in the Planning One's First Year sub-section.

The UZH Welcome Event

If you can, you should also attend the UZH Welcome Event, which always takes place in the first half of September. Among other things, you will receive useful information concerning the program requirements, module booking, and the UZH's online learning platform, OLAT.

Note: Please make sure to activate your OLAT account as soon as you have received your UZH shortname and password.
