The English Department of the University of Zurich has an opening for a non-permanent position of Lektor*in in the academic year 2023/2024. The position is of interest to instructors who have the capacity to substitute for a team member who reduces their workload. The initial contract is for one semester with the possibility of extending it for another semester with a different teaching load.
Your responsibilities
You are responsible for teaching courses on the English language (with an emphasis on writing skills) as well as Anglophone culture within our Language Skills and Culture section. The two courses that you will teach are "Language Skills and Culture: Introduction, Part I" (Bachelor level) and "Writing Skills for Research" (Master level). The Bachelor course takes place on Thursdays (10:15-12:00) or Fridays (10:15-12:00 or 12:15-13:45). The Master course is scheduled for Thursdays (14:00-15:45). Both courses have parallel courses taught by other members of the Language Skills and Culture team and the syllabus and teaching materials are coordinated among the instructors teaching within the same module. In addition to teaching the two courses you are expected to take an active part in the shared duties of the Lektor*innen Team, which includes tasks such as the grading of papers and exams.
Your profile
You are a native speaker of English with a satisfactory to good command of German, and you hold an MA degree in English or a related field in the humanities. You have experience teaching academic writing at BA and MA level (which, at the University of Zurich, also involves contents related to cultural and media studies) and have skills in designing materials for such courses.

You will be assigned a workspace at the English Department. The university's regulations allow staff to work from home for up to 40% of their weekly employment time.
