This international conference is dedicated to the relationship between law and gender in the sciences and arts, but also in the social and state reality of the eighteenth century. It traces the course of debates and legal situations as well as the interactions between the history of ideas and historical reality, and their critical or affirmative reflection in literature and art. In so doing it raises the fundamental question of women's legal capacity and their possible participation in the human rights, formulated for the first time in the Enlightenment, and discusses the answers provided in the realms of philosophy, the sciences, the arts and the legal practice of the eighteenth century.

Diese internationale Tagung widmet sich dem Verhältnis von Recht und Geschlecht in den Wissenschaften und Künsten, aber auch in der sozialen und staatlichen Realität des 18. Jahrhunderts. Sie zeichnet sowohl die Verlaufsformen der Debatten und Gesetzeslagen nach als auch die Interaktionen zwischen den ideen- und den realgeschichtlichen Prozessen sowie ihre kritische oder affirmative Reflexion in Literatur und Kunst. Dabei stellt sie die grundsätzliche Frage nach der Rechtsfähigkeit der Frau und ihrer möglichen Partizipation an den erstmals in der Aufklärung formulierten Menschenrechen und diskutiert, welche Antworten darauf in der Philosophie, den Wissenschaften, den Künsten und der Rechtspraxis des 18. Jahrhunderts gefunden wurden.
