Prof. Auer has been Professeure Ordinaire at the University of Lausanne since 2014, and previously held posts at Utrecht University (NL), Leiden University (NL), Liverpool Hope University (UK), and the University of Manchester (UK). She is widely-known for her research on historical sociolinguistics; her current research focuses on the role of historical urban vernaculars in standardisation processes, the language of the labouring poor in Late Modern England and language maintenance and shift amongst Swiss heritage speakers in North America.
As part of Prof. Daniel Schreier's course 'Principles of Language Change', Prof. Auer will give a lecture titled:
