On
May 5 and 6, 2017, the English Seminar will host the
Doctoral Workshop "Texts and Contexts" with Prof. Dr. Paulo de Medeiros from the University of Warwick (UK) as guest speaker and Prof. Dr. Ana Sobral as organizer.
The aim of the workshop is to explore how specific historical, cultural, social and discursive contexts influence the production of texts (literary and beyond). At the same time, we want to discuss the potential and the limits of analysing texts against the background of a specific context. Our theoretical framework will be provided by two great names in literary studies, namely Jacques Derrida and Edward Said. We will read two short texts by Derrida and Said that address precisely these questions.
