Negation
Corpus linguistics
Grammaticalization
I work as a Liaison Librarian (LL/academic librarian/“Fachreferentin”) for English Literature and Linguistics at the University Library (UB). I studied English, German and Computational Linguistics at Zurich and spent one semester abroad at the University of East Anglia in Norwich. After having completed my dissertation and having worked at the English department in various positions, as an LL I now provide subject-specific library support to students and staff of the English department.
My dissertation was a corpus-linguistic study of negation and scope ambiguity in English and German (to be found here in our library and online in ZORA). An earlier article on the topic I wrote together with Gunnel Tottie appeared in The Expression of Negation (also accessible at our library and online). Although I am no longer actively involved in doing research, I am still very interested in linguistics and literature and I enjoy getting a good overview of all new publications in my library position.
Recurring library exhibitions on authors from the English-speaking world, other literary or linguistic topics relating to current events, workshops or courses at the department, or simply English studies topics we find interesting.
Special module in collaboration with the English department: Short Library Internship
A student curates a library exhibition and designs a website with pictures, texts and additional material to accompany the exhibition.
In HS2024, Ren Schnüriger completed our first library internship; the exhibition is entitled “The Life and Works of J. R. R. Tolkien” and starts on December 12.
