- According to the OED (3rd ed, online), a passcaglia is: "A slow musical composition written in triple time, usually consisting of continuous variations over a ground bass. Also: an early kind of Spanish dance to such a composition."
- Finnegans Wake (1939) is the last major work of the Irish author James Joyce.
